Did You Know in 1999...

Light of the World Charities was founded by Theresa Banks, R.N., as a surgical and dental mission program in South America, Central America and Africa. The first mission trip was in Peru.
Due to the threats of insurgency abroad and the danger to American missionaries, the mission program closed in 2015.
2015
The Board of Directors identified a local need for children’s dental services and established the Little Lights Dentistry program for uninsured children from birth through high school graduation in Martin County and along the Treasure Coast.  
2016
Mrs. Banks led the implementation of Little Lights Dentistry with partial funding from the Children’s Services Council of Martin County and the Florida Association of Free and Charitable Clinics.
2016
Little Lights Dentistry office was moved from Palm City to the community campus of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Stuart.

Became a founding member of the Martin County Oral Health Coalition.  

2018
Dr. St-Preux, DMD, joined the Little Lights Dentistry Team 🦷
2019
Lori Sang, Funding Developer, is named Executive Director
2020
After reopening following the COVID shutdown, Little Lights Dentistry received funding from the Community Foundation of Martin-St. Lucie to pilot Uber Health

Uber Health is used as a transportation option for children and families without other means of travel to and from dental appointments.

2022
Little Lights Dentistry received an Impact 100 grant award for a makeover of the office, complete with child-friendly murals of Pirates of the Treasure Coast.

This grant furnished the “Impact100 Operatory” with child-sized equipment including a pediatric dental chair, in addition to a nitrous oxide unit, and more!

2023
City of Stuart
The City of Stuart became a funding partner by awarding a grant to add four dental operatories to the existing office.

Funding from the Florida Association of Free & Charitable Clinics supported the purchase of new equipment and furnishings.

2024
Little Lights employed one full-time dentist, two dental hygienists, two Expanded Functions Dental Assistants, one Patient Coordinator/Expanded Functions Dental Assistant, one Finance Director, and one Executive Director.
2025
Little Lights Dentistry provided a dental home for 2,298 children and has completed 1,524 Uber trips to and from the dental office.
